Handball Fitness Drills

Handball can be a pretty physically demanding sport so it’s important that players exercise regularly and try to keep up a fitness routine so that they can play well on the court. And to help players to improve their overall fitness we've created a collection of simple but extremely effective handball fitness drills below that when performed often will ensure that players are more than ready to face any opponents on the handball court!
Drill #1:
This drill requires four cones and each cone must be placed 5 meters away from each other in a straight line.
The player then starts from the first cone and touches the second cone with his hands and back to touch the first cone again. After he touches the first cone he goes and touches the third cone which is 10 meters away and comes back to touch the first cone. After he touches the first cone again he goes back and touches the fourth cone which is 15 meters away and comes back to touch the first cone.If the player does it correctly he must have run 60 meters.
You might ask why can't he just run 60 meters directly instead of touching the cones one by one.The reason is this drill increases the players stamina, acceleration and top speed. If he ran 60 meters directly he would have only improved his top speed
Drill #2:
This is a fun, easy and yet very effective drill. All you have to do is find a normal line or you can draw a line yourself.
With one leg jump left and right over the line. Then with the other leg jump left and right over the line.Once you finished you both of your legs and jump left and right over the line.

Handball Drills for Kids

Playing Handball is a great way for kids to stay fit and teaches kids to work together as a team. The very best way to help kids to master all of the handball basics is by regularly running handball drills that are designed for young players.                                                                                                                        Below we've put together a great list of handball drills for children that are not only super effective at teaching kids how to pass, defend, attack and everything else but are also a ton of fun to do and will have kids constantly looking forward to their next handball practice!                                                                     Drill #1:                                                                                                                       It’s always important that kids warm up before playing netball to get their body limber and their blood circulating. A basic but effective drill for doing this is to have the kids do a few laps around the oval at a jogging pace followed by some stretches including lunges, arm swings, torso twists, squats and hamstring walks.                                                                                                                                                          Drill #2:                                                                                                                                                                  Handball tag is a fun handball game that will help to improve kids focus and maneuverability whilst on the court. Start by dividing the kids up into two teams and then give the ball to one of the teams.
The team with the ball is ‘tagged’ and must attempt to ‘tag’ the players on the other team by touching them with the handball. The game finishes when all of the players from the other team have been ‘tagged’ and the last player remaining is declared the winner.                                                                                             Drill #3:                                                                                                                                                                  This simple but extremely effective handball drill for kids will help children to develop their accuracy and power when throwing the ball.                                                                                                            To perform this drill simply pair up all of the players and have them pass and catch the ball between them and their partner until a predetermined number of passes and catches has been reached.                                Drill #4:                                                                                                                                                                 Here’s a fun handball training drill that kids go nuts over. It's called King Ball. Divide the kids into two separate teams and then assign one player from each team to be the ‘King’. The King from each team must go and stand on their bench.                                                                                                          Each team must then try to get all of their team’s players to become kings and standing on their teams bench. Whoever does this first wins the game. Players can become a King by making a successful pass to their team’s King without the King falling off of the bench with also abiding by the rules of handball at all time.                                                                                                                                                        An interesting variation on King ball is to make it so that each player is only allowed to pass to their King after completing a certain number of passes beforehand.

Handball Passing Drills

Passing is an essential skill that all handball players need to practice and master. Without the ability to pass it’s impossible for a handball team to work together effectively. The following handball passing drills are all created to help handball players and teams to learn proper and accurate passing technique.
Drill #1:
To perform this drill all players must form a circle with a passer positioned in the center. A ball should be given to the passer in the center of the circle and one of the players forming the circle.
The passer in the middle then passes to the player to the right of the player holding the other ball and at the same time the other player with the ball should pass their ball to the passer in the middle. This continues on until the balls have gone through two full rotations of the circle after which the passer in the middle is switched for another player.                                                                                                            Drill #2:                                                                                                                                                                   This handball passing requires four players to form a square with one player standing at each corner of the square. A fifth attacking player is then positioned in the middle of the square with a ball.
The player in the middle of the square can throw to any player in the corner and that player must pass back immediately. This should be repeated 10-15 times and then  the player in the middle of the square can change.                                                                                                                                                        Drill #3:                                                                                                                                                                 This passing drill is designed to get players used to making quick passes and helps to improve their reaction time.                                                                                                                                          Pair up players and give a ball to one player from each pair. Have the other player standing a few yards away from them with their hands down by their sides and facing their partner. The player with must then pass the ball to the second player and as soon as it’s being passed the second player must quickly bring up their hands and catch the ball.                                                                                                                         The roles are then switched and the ball is passed back and this continues on for several rounds.
Drill #4:
This drill involves three players and one ball. It’s performed by positioning two players t the horizontal points of an imaginary T. At the bottom of the imaginary T stands the passer.
The passer can throw the ball to any one of the other two players. The players must be agile to catch the ball and pass back immediately.
The passer can also throw the ball high up so that so that the players can learn to pass back in mid air.
